RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.

By Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE, January 31.

A deputation from the Railway League waited en the Premier to-day, and expressed satisfaction at the progress that was being made in the construction of the local railway, and urged the need for opening branch lines.

The Premier, replying, said ( that the Government were doing the best for the whole Dominion, subject to limitations placed upon them. He recognised this would be a great district, and the Government would push on the local line as rapidly as possible. The subject of feeders to the railway would have the clcsfi attention of the Government.
