TAKAPUNA RACES. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 29. The weather was fine though overcast for the first day's racing of the Takapuna Jockey Club's Summer Meeting. The course was in fair order. The sum of £10,471 went through the totalisatin*. The following are the results: — Handicap Maiden Plate, 1 mil*.— J. Nelson's Mentora, by Soult— Sappire, 7.11, Buchanan, 1; Explosive, 7.13, K. E. Brown, 2; Lord Crespin 8.10, Ackroyd, 3. Also' started—Paul 9.1, Dainty 8.8, Biddy 7.8, Kapuarangi 7.8, Blue Rocket 7.8. Won by three lengths. Time, lmin 46sec. Calliope Handicap, 5£ furlongs.— E. Millet's Hyperian, by Soult— Thera, 7.11, Deeley, 1; Sea Elf, 8.10, Burton, 2; Elegance, 7.10, McMillan, 3. Also started—Tetrazzini 7.9, Caruso 7.5, Fleet Arrow 7.5. Excalibur and Fighting Fish 6.12. Hyperian won by a length from Sea Elf, the latter being a similar distance in front of Elegance. Excalibur was fourth. Time, lmin 10 3-ssec.
Zealandia Handicap, 5 furlongs.— Cook Bros'. Azoff, by Menschikoff— Queen Cole, 6.13, J. Brady, 1; Wauchope, 8.3, Feeney, 2; Devonport, 9.0, Dteley, 3. First Gun 7.0; Maheno'6.lo, and Rimlock 6.10. Won by two lengths. Time, 2min 30sec. Flying Handicap, H furlongs.— A. Quartermain's Jena, 8.0, Ackroyd, 1; Explosive, 8.5, 2; Mentira, 8.5,3. Also ran—Hardrock, Guzzle, Winhaston, Durability, Fuss, Aimwell, Goldwin, Master Paul, Flying Scout, Zinnia, Michaeloff and Tattoo. Won by two and a-half lengths. Time, lmin 11 l-ssec. First Pony Handicap, 5J furlongs. —H. Barr's Glenora, 8.11, Buchanan, 1- Mistime, 8.7, 2; Elenore, 7.0, 3. Also ran-Mighty Atom, Paul, Beaver, Cyrona, Mah.l :iga, Carmina, Etona, Lady Aroha. Won by a length. Time, lmin 8 4-ssec. Orewa Hurdle Race, If mile.— Okaiahau, 9.0, 1; Hautapu, 12.5, 2; Mozart, 9.1, 3. Also star-tec— Noteorini and Waicekau. Won by a Jength. Time, 3min 24sec.
