NORTH BRASS BAND ASSOCIATION.

By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., January 29. A special meeting of the Executive of the North Island Brass Band Association was held to-night to consider the action of the Wellington Garrison Band in circularising the bands competing in the Hastings Contest.

Mr Cohen (President) presided, and said that the Wellington Garrison Band had adopted neither the proper nor the constitutional course in dealing with the grievance. He read a letter from Mr H. G. Hill to the Secretary of the Hastings Contest Committee, embodying most of the grievances contained in the circular, and expressed the opinion that Mr Hill was at the bottom of the trouble. Lieut. Herd, of the Wellington Gamson Band, stated that the matter had nothing to do with the Wellington Band not competing at Hastings. He himself was against the procedure adopted, and considered the matter should have been left to the annual meeting of the Association.

Mr Baker, of Wellington, considered the Wellington Band had a grievance, and admitted the nonmclusion of Mr Hill's name on the ballot paper was at the bottom of the trouble.

After a lengthy discussion the following resolutions were carried: — That those who are dissatisfied be invited to state their grievances in a constitutional manner by moving at the annual meeting a want of confidence motion in the executive; that it be intimated to them that a reply is expected on or before February 10th; the Wellington Garrison Band to be called upon to withdraw without qualification from the attitude they have assumed by circularising bands with certain matter calculated to bring discredit upon the Association, and that H. G. Hill be called upon to show cause why he should not be dealt with under rule 12 for his action in writing to the Secretary of the Hastings Contest Commitee, under date of December 12th, 1908, in terms reflecting on the integrity and efficiency of the Association's secretary, and that a" written statement be forwarded to the President on or before February 10th.
