RELICS OF OLD.

Mr Hauzard, Government Surveyor, found in the s'and, near Mercury Bay, an old Maori workshop for making stone implements, including an anvil and axes, and also ovens in which cannibal feasts had been cooked. The relics were found near Wharetawa Pa, where in 1800 the Ngatipei' tribe, numbering 1,000, were slaughtered.
