PAHIATUA RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. ■ (Special Reporter). j The Pahiatua Racing Club opened j their annual meeting today. Glori- j ous weather prevailed, and splendid racing was witnessed, the starting of Mr Piper being highly commented upon. Everything passed off: successfully, the arrang?ments being most satisfactory. There was a good attendance of visitors and the local public. v The sum of £6,174 was put through the totalisator, as against £6,781 for the first day l;\st year. Six bookmakers were licensed inside, and the same number outside. The following are the results : HANDICAP HACK HURDLES, of 60 sovs; 1J miles, Mr W. GieserTs Maidi, 10.5, J. Abbott 1 Mr P. E. Debreceny's Don Carlos, 11.6, C. Cress 2 Mrs W. F. Moore's Whatakuri, 10.11, C. Prichard 3 Also started—Narcotic 10.10, Coy < 10.5, Trustee 9.0, and Snow Star 9.0. Snow Star went to the front when the barrier went up, and led into the straight. Passing the stand Maidi raced away from the field, an d at the back of the course had a lead of half-a-dozen lengths. Whatakura endeavoured to catch the leader, but fell back beaten half-way down the straight. Maidi won easily, Don Carlos being second and Whatakura third. Coy fell at the second fence. Time, 3min 20 3-s?ec. RAILWAY HANDICAP, of 100 sovs; 6 furlongs. Mr J. M. Johnstone's Cute, 7.10, M.Ayres 1 Mr A. Peters' Mussel, 7.13, W. Price 2 Mr H. G. Long's Lo-miela, 7.8, F. Cress 3 Also started Lady Menschikoff 9.0, Lethean 8.8, Toa Tuhi 7.13, Chicane 7.11, Thera 7.2. With the exception of Toa Tuhi the field left the mark together. Lochiela showed in front, closely followed by Mussd and Cute. On entering the straight the Stepniak mare shot to the front and passed the judge's box with a length to the good. Mussel was half a length in front of Lochiela. Toa Tuhi got badly left, and raced behind the field, lime, Imin 16 3--sdec. FLYING HACK HANDICAP, of ! v 50 sovs; 6 furlongs. Mr S. Russell's Vi, 8.4, D. Kemp 1 Mr F. H. Lambert's Miss Vera, 8.5, R. Hatch 2 j Mr D. Donald's No Trumps, 7.10, L. Wilson 3 Also started— Merrie Christmas 7.12, Bonnie Doon 7.12, Sir Possible 7.11, Awha 7.9, Royal Maid 7.8, and Quandary 6.10. From an even start Miss Vera took command, Sir Possible and Vi racing neck and neck behiiid. When heads were turned for home, Vi passed Miss Vera, and coming on full of running won by a clear length from Miss Vera, who was a length in front of No Trumps. Time lmin 17sec. WELTER HACK, of 60 sovs; 1 mile. Mr G. Green's Windage, 9.2, H. Cairns 1 Mr A. Leicester's Midian, 8.8, W. Price 2 Mr H. Hickey's Cockatoo, 10.0, T. Prichard 3 Also started—Anemone 8.13, Rou- | tine 8.12 and Diplomatic 8.9. A fairly good start was effected. Ane mone got caught in the tapes. Cockatoo and Midian made the pace, Windage being in a handy position. On entering the straight Windage moved up, and a great race ensued, the three placed horses being under punishment. Windage lasted long enough to win by three-parts of a length from Midian; Cockatoo close up third. Time, lmin 44& sec. McLean's Loiret, 7.9, R. Hatch 3 Mr W. Piatt's Merrie Rose, 8.0, Langstone 0 Mr W. H. Nicol's Sir Antrim, 7.13, T. George 0 Mr A. Sands' Nova, 7.7, L. Wilson 0 j Mr A. Robertson's Kilmarnock, j 7.6, Clarebutt 0 Mr O. H. Roberts' Tangeroa, 6.11, W. Ayres 0 When the tapes went up Tangeroa and Merrie Rose jumped to the front. Kilmarnock got badly left. Passing the stand Tangeroa was first and Merrie Rose second, then came Loiret, Roosevelt, Moloch, Nova, Sir Antrim and Kilmarnock last. At the back stretch Roosevelt and Nova moved up. Tangeroa and Merrie Rose dropped back near the turn of the straight, and Roosevelt and Loiret were in the lead. Half-way down the straight Moloch came through at a great pace, and though he was loudly proclaimed a winner could only get within a length of Roosevelt, who had a bit in hand. Loiret close up third. Cress rode a most patient race on the winner. Time, 2min 52sec. TELEGRAPH HACK STAKES, of 50 sovs; 5 furlongs. Mr F. Tilley's ch g Debonnaire, Daunt—Flatter, 4yrs, L. Wilson 1 Mr F. Purakau, Surmount, Oblivion, Teanui, Tauhara, Sweet Shot and Bravery also started. This was a splendid start. Debonnaire was in the lead on entering the straight, and though hard pushed by Notorious passed the judge's box with half a length to spare. Lucretius was about a neck away third, all the other horses being close up. Time, lmin 3sec. TRIAL HACK PLATE, of 50 sovs, [ second horse to receive 7 sovs, and third horse 3 sovs from the stake; for horses that have never won a race of greater value than 20 sovs at time of starting. Mr A. Cress 3 Chicane 8.11, Rosegrove 8.10, Erl King 8.9, Skye 8.6 and Mallet 8.5 also started. Erl King took the lead for the first five furlongs,, when Rangihaeta and Highden came through, the former winning a good race by about half a length from Highden. Gaelic ciose up third.
