SCHOOLMASTER AND PUPILS.
A PECULIAR CASE. By Telegraph —Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 25. Mr Floranccr S.M., gave an important decision at Kohukohu, on Thursday last, when Mr Cox, headmaster nf the Kohukohu School, and John M'Gechie, assistant, were charged with assaulting several sixth standard pupils. The case of Selwyn Maxwell was taken as a test. It was shown that the boy participated in cheering, outside the school erates just after school hours, two boys who had been punished. The demonstration was a defiance of the headmaster. The magistrate's decision was that the law gave the master power to punish a pupil for misconduct while on the way home from school, and the punishment was not excessive. The informations were therefore dismissed, with costs, £4 lUf, against the parents.
