By Telograph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 25. The second wool sale- of the season was begun this morning, when seven selling brokers submitted catalogues totalling 10,366 bales. Competition wai exceedingly spirited. Judging by two catalogues which had been disposed of by noon, prices for all classes are roughly £d per lb better than at the first sale in December. Super crossbreds and halfbreds sold up to 10Jd lb, threequarter bred to lid, and super merino to ll£d. The total offerings in Dunedin so far amount to 29,116 bales, as compared with 22,445 bales at the corresponding stage last season. This increase is set down largely to the disposition of growers to offer clips at the local sales, instead of shipping to London. Later. To-day's catalogue was a record for Dunedin. The attendance of buyers was large and representative of all the British, Continental and American centres, and buyers from New Zealand mills, fellmongers and speculators from all parts of the Dominion were present. The general quality of the clip was quite equal to that of last year.. Bidding was animated throughout,, and growers appeared highly satisfied with the prices. A noticeable feature of the sale was the extreme prices paid for crossbreds hogget wool of long sound staple. The prices realised were as follow:- Merino super, 10d; to 12id; medium to good, BJd to 9Jd; inferior, 6£d to 71d; half bred super, lOd to 12d; medium to good, Sd to 10d: inferior, 6id to 7§d; crossbred super, lOArf to Iljd; good 9d to 10jd; medium, 6|d to Bfd; inferior, 5d to 6Jd. Taken all round prices showed an advance on those realised last year.
