NOTES.
(By "Zetland"). M. MeGrath's Osiris led of? by winning the Mungaroa Welter of seven furlongs. The chestnut had evidently improved by his Wednesday's gallop, and kept with the Held from the despatch. At the business end ha won comfortably. Th? Finland mare, Vasa, had a va-y r-asy win in the January Welter, scoring by four lengths from Bourrasque m the good time of Imi>: 42 4-ssec. Two three-year-olds and seven two-year-olds contested the Wellington Stakes, of five furlongs. Thaodore, winner of the Nursery on Wednesday, won in fine style from Broad - a.vord an.:l Merrivva. Mr W. E. Bidwill's Expansion was solidly supported for this event, but finished well back, while Armlet and Gipsy Belle were not pronr.inent in the finish. A fins field of eleven paraded prevkmlothe Racing Club Handicap. Muskerry was made a strong favourite, and jumping away with the lead was never headed, and won by three lengths from Truganini, with Gold Crest third. Blue Kibbon was caught in the tapes at the start and did not get to the field until they had traversed nearly six furlongs. The pace set by Muskerry was too fast to enable the Cup winner to get up in time to fight out the finish. Merrie Zealand did not run up to expectations, and Moloch did not race with that determination that he shows when in the winning humour. The Duuro Cap, which might be termed a champion hack handicap, as the fine stake of 250sovs was given, brought out seventeen of the very best hacks in the Dominion. Effort was made favourite, others well hacked being Longner, Eclogue, Passion, Passive,. Seatoudale, Merrivonia and Strategist. A firm pace was set from the start, and in a fine finish Consolation won from Merrivonia by about a length. ■ Splash, who ran very moderately at 'i'auherenikau this month, won the Disposal Stakes very comfortably in a field of fourteen. When submitted for sale bv auction she was knocked down to Mr H. Hodge at £l5O. The day's racing was brought to a close with the Metropolitan Handicap. Ten very capable sprinters entered the contest, and with Rangipapa at 9.1, Tumut 8.9, and Ballarat 8.0, as top weights, ihe majority of the public went for Taitoko at 7.11. After a long delayed start, Tumut was first out. Rangipapa nnd Mon Ami quickly caught: him, and after traversing about a furlong Cairns steadied Tumut, when All Guns took up the running. Tumut was third entering the straight, and half-way down when called upon he responded like a racehorse, saon disposed of Flitaway and Rangipapa, and won by two lengths. The Wairarapa score at the meeting so far is:—Cup,. Blue Ribbon; Telegraph and Metropolitan, Tumut; Douro Cup, Consolation: Anniversary Welter, Merrie Zealand; and Osiris, Mungaroa Welter. It will thus be acknowledged that this district is playing an important part at the summer fixture. ACCEPTANCES FOR THIRD'" DAY.
