EXTENSION OF WATERWAYS SYSTEM. TO COST ONE~~HUNDRED MILLIONS. Received January 21, 8.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Januaiy2C. The United States Government is planning a gigantic extension of the internal waterways system,-costing a hundred millions sterling. The work will be spread over the next decade, and will be followed by an annual vote of ten millions for an indefinite period. The undertaking is considered necessary because the demands for transportation are increasing quicker tnan the railways. It is proposed to link up the east and middle west by a circular waterway route five thousand miles long, tapping a district comprising 1,30Lf,000 square miles.
