CASTLEPOINT NOTES.
JJ (From Our Own Correspondent). 1 The weather was most unseasonable here last week, Saturday being freshened considerably by a strong sou'-westerly gale. Huge rollers were breaking against the reef, making a glorious display. Sunday, however, broke beautifully fine, and visitors were able to resume bathing. On Friday great excitement was caused amongst the children, swarms of warehau being chased ashore by kawhai. Some good hauls of fish have been made this season by visitors. Contrary to last y3ar there is an abundance of feed everywhere, and stock on the coast are looking particularly well. Crutchmg and dipping have already commenced on the Castlepoint station. A cricket match, Castlepoint v. Whakataki, was played on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the former team. The new road between Castlepoint and Whakataki is now open for traffic, and I understand that tenders for the road down the Whakataki creek will shortly be called. Considerable interest is being shown in the approaching Whakataki Hack Races which will take place next month. A large number of entries are expected.
