VALEDICTORY.
MR AND MRS CORADINE'S TOUR. There was a large gathering of bowlers on the Masterton Bowling Green last evening, when the President (Mr J. M. Coradine), who leaves to day with Mrs Coradine on a tour of the East, Europe and America, was entertained by the Club. Mr F. J. Dupre, Vice-President, occupied the chair, and, in a few words, expressed the good wishes of the Club for a very enjoyable and beneficial trip. Mr Coradine was a valued member of the Club, who, as President, was undoubtedly in his right position, and all bowlers would be pleased to see him and Mrs Coradine return renewed in health ar.d vigour, and also to see Mr Coradine resume his position as President. (Applause). The toast of Mr Coradine's health was then enthusiastically honoured, the company singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and giving hearty cheers for the recipient The Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings) said he thought that as a bowler and a citizen th? guest was an exceedingly popular gentleman, who had always "played the game." His Worship felt that he could not say too much of the guest as a thoroughly popular bowler and good citizen. Mr Hollings concluded by wishing Mr and Mr 3 Coradine a pleasant voyage and safe return. Messrs E. McEwen, W. Pragnell, J. H. Pauling, Haughey and D. Guild also made short speeches eulogising the qualities of the guest as a citizen, a public man, and a bowler. ! Mr E. J. Rose, in a neat speech, then made Mr Coradine a present- j ation of a handsome smoker's com- j panion, the various articles bsing suitably engraved. i Mr Coradine, in r. j ply, said he j felt at a loss to thank, in suitable j terms, not only the bowlers who had so splendidly honoured him, but i the people of Masterton generally , who had personally expressed to Mrs Coradine and himself best wishes for a successful and happy trip. Both he and his wife would cherish the beautiful presents given them, and when in other lands they would think kindly of their many esteemed friends in Masterton. BOROUGH COUNCIL APPRECIATION. | i I At the Borough Conn-iil meeting last evening the gift of a framed enlarged photograph of Mr Coradine (who was Mayor prior to Mr Hollings' election) was accepted by the Council from Mr Coradine, the photograph being hung in the Council Chamber. The Mayor said the present was an opportune time for the Council to express its appreciation of the late Mayor's valuable services to the Borough of Masterton, and he moved that there be placed on record the Council's recognition of Mr Coradine's valuable work as Mayor of IViasterton, and that the Council extend hearty wishes to ? him and Mrs Coradine for a sale and pleasant journey. Other Councillors heartily endorsed the Mayor's remarks, the motion being carried unanimously.
