WHAREAMA SPORTS.

(From Our Tinui Correspondent). The fifth annuHl uv.t-tina "1* t'"" Wharcama Sports S;jcu ; -> was i«J'i n the 15th inst. The weather was »wisterous, and Hie attendance was thoreforo not large. The Society have gone to considerable expense this year in building- a roomy pavilion, which was much appreciated by the public. A jioud tla.y's spt-v?, v.ad witnessed, in some instances wnen competitions for ladies were being decided, a howling Kale was raging, but the fair sex only smiled, although their horses could hardly face the cutting; rain. Mr D. Munro, the popular secretary, carried out his duties in a capable manner. A word of praise is also due to the other officials. Although there were a large number of horse events no accidents occurred. There were a few spills. The following are the results:— Maiden Race, 220 Yards.—Kerwavne 1, Hodge 2, Bethune 3. 100 Yards Handicap.—White 1, McKenzie 2, Taylor 3. , 440 Yards Handicap.—Taylor 1, Hodge 2, McKenzie 3. Hurdles Handicap.—Ellis 1, Schofield 2, Hodge 8. One Mile Handicap.— lay lor 1, Fletcher 2, Schofield S. Hop, Step and Jump.— Collerton 1, Ellis 2, Hodge 3. HORSE EVENTS. Ladies' Driving.—Miss Morrison 1, Miss K. Morrison 2, Mrs H. Morrison 3. Addition Race.—Hodge and Miss Betosse 1, Douglas and Miss Tatham 2, Smith and Miss Tatham 3. Pig Spearing.—O'Brien 1, Tohe 2, Morrison 3. Hunters' Competition.— J. Douglas' Robin 1, R. Morrison 2, F. Hill's Gunner 3. \ Orange Race,—Miss Austin 1, Miss Fraser 2/ Miss Jen3on 3. Ladies' Tilting.—Miss Fraser I, Mrs Tohe 2, Miss Jenson 3. Sheep-guessing Competition— (The weight when killed was 1291b5). — Mr Maxwell guessed the exact weight, Mr C. Taylor (128ilbs) being second, and Mr T. P. Lett (130 Ibs) third.
