THE OPPOSITION.
Had the Opposition been stronger during the life of the late Parliament, they would have been enabled to render more effective .service in saving the Government from the consequences of their own folly, remarks the Christchurch "Truth." To some extent the past may be retrieved during the coming three years, but not unless the Opposition succeed in forcing their opponents to confess the errors of their ways anil to consent to facing the position with an honest determination to do what is right in the interests of all classes. The immediate future may have all sorts of changes in atore, and seeing that the public memory for the efforts of its benefactors is so short, it is necessary to press home with emphasis the outstanding truth that the hest services rendered to the country by the Government have been those which filtered through the closest scrutiny of a strong Opposition.
