WAS IT A STRIKE?

TROUBLE OVER A "SMOKEOH." By Telegraph—Pres3 Assuciation. HASTINGS. January 14. The Pakipaki freezing works trouble has apparently ended, for the men who knocked off yesterday returned to work this morning. The dispute was confined to the fellmongers, who. under the new foreman, were not allowed to smoke while working. Their demand yesterday for "smokeoh" wa3 refused, as it was not provided for in the award, and at 3 o'clock they knocked off work in batches of five. Particulars of the terms on which work was resumed are not available further than that the inen in future will be permitted to smoke during work or allowed an interval for "smoke-oh."
