"TAILOR-MADE" SUITS.

Some astounding evidence was given by a witness before the sitting of the Clothing Trades Board at Sydney concerning the alleged malpractices by some country storekeepers. The witness stated that some traders were advertising that they would provide clients with tailor-made suits at prices ranging from £3 10s to £4 10s. The speaker, who was a traveller for a Sydney leading tailor, and a practical man, ssid that the clothes were factory-made, but bore a label "tailor-made." These storekeepers, he said, gave it out that they had no room on their premises to house a staff, so they sent the orders out to be executed. Instead of this, however, they sent to Sydney factories and obtained suits which would approximate the measurements they had taken of their clients, who would thus be led. to believe that they were getting their garments made to order. As a rule these storekeepers had a conspicuous sign

in front of their premises advising residents to "Try our tailor-made suits."' The witness considered that factory-made clothing should be labelled as such, in order that the public would not-be defrauded by the misrepresentations which were at present extensively carried on in the country. These suits were, in witness's opinion, causing unfair competition with the legitimate master tailor.
