PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. At the Pahiatua County Council on Saturday last, the Finance Committee recommended the following amounts for payment: —General Account, £lB9 15s 4d; Riding Account, £IOO 8s lid; Interest Account, £1,166 3s 7d; total, £1,456 7s lOd. I have been informed, on good authority, that the Hon. A. W. Hogg, M.P.., together wiith Mr R. B. Ross, M.P. for Pahiatua, will make a tour of the back-blocks shortly to inspect the roads, etc. This will, do doubt, be very pleasing news to the settlers in the outlying country. The local land agents report that business is improving, several farms having changed .hands lately. Every agent in town has been successful in this line. Last week Mr W. I. Husband sold two farms, one of them being a sheep farm of 800 acres. Mr F. Piper, for many years a resident of Makairo, but now settled at Petane, Hawke's Bay, is on a visit to this district. Mr Piper states that the sheep-farmers are having a good year in the Hawke's Bay district, and there has been a phenomenal growth of grass. Stock of every description are doing remarkably, and good clips of wool are reported. In fact, said Mr Piper, Messrs Borthwick and .Sons have been unable to cope with the large supply of fat stock. Old farmers consider this season the best they jiave had for many years. Mr Thomas Bailey, painter and
paperhanger, has been adjudged bankrupt on his own petition. The debts (unsecured creditors) amount, to £784, and-the assets £1,045, leaving a surplus of £261. The first meeting of creditors will be held in the Courthouse on iFriday afternoon at 2.30 o'elock. Only five cricketers attended practice on the Recreation Ground. This does not augur too well.for the Club in their match against Woodville tomorrow afternoon. STOCK MARKET.
