CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Friday
As the outcome of a rumour that the Government were endeavouring to induce the Pahiatua Borough Council to give a site for a new Post Office, preferably one of the town squares in the centre of the town, the Council of the Chamber of Commerce held a special meeting in Mr Tosswill's office last evening to discuss the matter. After fully discussing the question, it was resolved that "'in the opinion of this meeting the present Post Office is situated in a most inconvenient place for business people of this district, and urge upon the Government the necessity of erecting the new Post Office in a more central site, and to request the Pahiatua Borough Council not to allow any of the squares to be used for building purposes, as they have for many years been used by the public as a Park." It was also resolved that the Government be requested to purchase a site, in the area, say from Mann Street to Mangahao Road, the Council favouring a site at the Mangahao Road comer. Several other matters were discussed, one dealing with the completion of Mt. Marchant Road and also the question of railway tariff. These matters will be finally dealt with at a meeting on Friday evening next.
