BROKEN HILL STRIKE.
RAILWAY LINES TORN UP. AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS. Received January 7, 9.20 a.m. SYDNEY/January 7. The Proprietary railway lines have been torn up in some places, and in others blocked by large boulders. The mine is now completely cut off. No attempt will be made at present to resume running trains. Some telephone wires have also been pulled down, and the insulators broken. Tom Mann is taking a prominent part in the leadership of the men, and delivering inflammatory speeches against the capitalist system. Several hundred more police are held in readiness to despatch to the Barrier if their sarvicesJare required. The Chief Secretary, Hon. J. Hogue, has directed mining inspectors not to recognise unions when they desire to enter mines. If they are interfered wit'i, they must look to Government for protection through the police. The unions aro appealing for funds while the trouble last?.
