By Telegraph—Presr. Association. DUNEDIN, January 6. The Educational Institute have ekcted the following officers:—President. Mr G. W. C. Macdonald, Oiagn; Secretary, Mr W. Foster, Wellington; Treasurer, Mr T. H. Hughes, Christehtfreh; non-official members of Executive, Messrs A. Murray, Auckland; J. Caughley, Wellington; J. Harkness, Reefton. The balance-shset showed the receipts for the year to have been £1 404 2s 6Jd; balance in hand, £406 15s Bd, lass outstanding cheques ,£62 4so£d; legal defence fund, £1,059 15a Id. The President stated that the present membership was 2,217- an increase oil 348 since the last annual meeting.

The following resolutions were carried : -That the Education Department be asked to formulate regulations as to sick leave granted to teachers, taking into consideration the hngth of service and also to allow for granting leave of absence on full pay after certain periods of service as is the case in some Austr. 1 n States; that the Institute considers pupil teachers who are compelled under a Board's regulations to sit for matriculation examinations should not have ti pay examination fees; that in the interest of educa-

tion the introduction of uniform ■ school books is undesirable; that it is desirable to bring before the notice of the Minister the necessity for pruviding for better physical conditions for children, especially with ragard to heating and outside shelter; that in the best interests o* education, Education Boards be requested to grant teachers two or more days in every year for the purpose of visiting the best schoo ; s in various educational districts; that the attention of the Department be drawn to existing discrepancy in fees payable fir subjects in class C examination; that the Government be asked to set up a psrmanent commission to revise place namei in New Zealand, with a view to removing anomalies in repetition of the same name, and in- spelling and to bestow new names.
