CRICKET.
OTAGO v. AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 28. The Auckland v. Otago representative cricket match for the Plunket Challenge Shield was commenced today in beautiful weather and on a perfect wicket. The attendance' numbered about two thousand. Otago won the toss and elected to bat. There was a fine stand made for: the first wicket, an even century being rejistei'ed. The feature of the innings was the score of 144 made by Wilson. Up to the afternoon tea adjournment the batting was of the careful order, the score then bsing 264 for three wickets. On resumption the team took more risks with the result that the wickets fell quickly, the last falling at 5.40 o'clock with the score at 338. Howden was the most successful trundler, taking seven wickets for 87 runs. Auckland has made a bad start, Woodsworth bowling Jones with the first ball of the innings. Stumps were drawn a few minutes later, Auckland's score being no runs for one wicket. The scores are as follow: — OTAGO—Ist Innings.
