RACING.

LOWER VALLEY JOCKEY CLUX '■ ANNUAL MEETING. (By "Zetland"). Fine weather favoured the fixture, and the attendance of the public was large. The course had benefited considerably by the recent rains, and was in better order than usual at the time of the year. The racing throughout was interesting, and some good finishes were witnessed by the assemblage, who appeared to appreciate the racing Proceedings opened with the Hack Hurdles, for which six started. Narcotic again emphasised his superiority by winning in a canter from Lerida and Lebeccio. The Maiden Plate was contested by six candidates and Swallow was made a firm favourite. The Conqueror filly got away quickly, and never being caught won by eight lengths from Vinco, who, however, lost his rider a chain from the post, and the third horse, Palestine, was consequently placed second. The stewards held an enquiry into the. riding of Vinco by Mehamara, and after taking the evidence of officials and several jockeys, the rider was merely cautioned.
