BOROUGH WORKS COMMITTEE.
ORDINARY MEETING. A meeting of the Works and Finance Committee was held on Tuesday, December 15th. There were present:—The Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings) and Councillors Elliott, Ewington, Haughey, Hunter, Morris, Pragnell, Prentice and Yurr. Accounts totalling £1,204 18s were passed for payment. Messrs Jackson and Waddington attended the meeting on behalf cf St. Matthew's New Church Committee, to urge reasons why the Borough Council should permit them tu have the use of the Park on the 11th of February next. The Committee agreed that the request cf the deputation was one whi?h should be granted. The Mayor gave notice of his intention to move at the next ordinary meeting in that direction. The Town Clerk reported that he had given instructions for the Poundkeeper's cottage to be put in d habitable condition. —The Committee recommended that the action of the Town Clerk be approved. Until otherwise ordered, as and from the Ist prox., the Committee decided to recommend the Council to fix the fees for the registration of dogs at 2s 8d for each cattle and drovers' dog, and 5s each for all j other dogs. Tue place of registration for the administrative area of th Borough is the offices of the Town Clerk, Chapel street, Masterton, and the Registrar, Joseph Cairns. The emoluments for such services be as formerly at the rate of Is per dog registered. The Committee recommends that the offices of the Borough Council be closed from the 24th inst. at noon down to and inclusive of the 4th prox. The Park Sub-Committee requested permission to sxpend about £25 on the provision of an earth stand facing the Lake. The Committee recommend that the expenditure be authorised, subject to the amount so expended being a first charge upon the receipts in connection with the sports to be held on the 22nd prox. A report of the Town Clerk and Borough Engineer in the following terms was received and adopted:— "There is nothing occasioning report on routine matters, Lincoln road 19 now nearing completion. The formation and regrading of Kuripuni street has been commenced. The provisions of section lb of the Public Works Act having been complied with and no objections being deceived, I have to a3k that two members and the Mayor be authorised to sign the annexed draft memorial to the Governor for the issue of his proclamation vesting the requisite lands in the Borough Council." The Cfpmmittee recommended that Mr R. Johnston be paid the sum of 16s for his services in cleaning out the ditches on Nursery road. The Committee recommended that the water-trough opposite Mr F. Dupre's shop be removed and reerected in proximity to the public convenience in Hall street.
