Messrs Levin and Co., Ltcf.« report as follows regarding last J/ian s sale: —No wool offered, all ;io>v toning to hand being Ijeld for the sai. on January Bth. We offered 3,500 skins, 700 hides and calfskins, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Skins—We quote: Fine crossbreds 6d to 7d, crossbreds 5d to (id, dead skins 24d to 4id, dead hoggets 2id to 4-kl, dry pelts Id to 3;kl, green skins 2s 6d to 5s 6d each, lamb skins 6d to Is 4d, green pelts Is to Is j 3d. Tallow--Firm. Parcels Jn j shipping order £23 10s; tins, £<18: to £2O 10s; rough fat, £lO to £l4. I Horsehair—ls to Is 3d per lb. Horns 5s to 17s 6d per hundred. Cowtails, Is 3d to Is 6d per dozen. Hides— We presented a good catalogue of well conditioned hides to a large number of buyers. Competition was very brisk, ' and everything was cleared at a sligh advance on last sale. ] We quote: Ox hides,heavy, 6d to ! 6|d; ox hides, medium, s|d to s|d; oxhides, light, 42d to sid; cow hides, 4£d to s&d; cut and slippy hides, 2dto4d; stag hides, 2|d to 3|d; bull hides. 2d to 3Jd; calf, best, 6d to 7Jd; calf, cut and slippy, 2d to 4£d. Owing to the holidays, our next sale will be held ori Friday, 15th January, 1909, a month hence. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports as follows: —Our usual sale "fixed for the 4th December having been put off owing to advent of wool sale, we had a large catalogue to subn.it to buyers on Friday. The various fellmongers and dealers were well represented, and competition was good for all lots. Only bag lots ot wool were offered, and these made ready sale at priees equivalent to values obtained for similar wool in bales at last sale. Sheepskins were in keen demand for all sound pelted lots, and marked au advance of about halfpenny, but faulty pelted skins were about on a par with last sale. Hides' sold well at an advance since last sale of Jd to |d per lb, and calfskins sold up to 8d per lb for well cared lots. Tallow was rather firmer for shipping lots, but odd lots of tins and small packages were rather lower. We quote: Wools in bags—Coarse and medium crossbred, 4d to 6d per lb; dead, 3£d to s|d; bellies and pieces, 2Jd to 3d; locks, to 2d. Sheepskins—Fine crossbred and halfbred, 6d to 7d per lb; coarse and medium, 5d to sid; lambs skins, 4£d to sd; dead and damaged, 2£d to 5Jd; pelts, sound, 2Jd to 3£d; pelts, damaged, id to 2d. Hides—Ox, heavy, 6Jd to 6§d per lb; ox, medium, to sgd; light ox and cows, 4§d to sd; damaged hides, to 3fd; sound calf, 5Ad to 8d; damaged, Id to 3|d. Tallow—ln shipping parcels, good mixed 23s to 24s 9d per cwt; in tins and odd packages, 18s to 20s. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their fortnightly sale of wool, skins and hide 3 on Friday, when they offered a large catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. Wool —Only bag lots offered. Crossbred, 4d to s£d; lambs, 4£d; halfbred, 7£; pieces, 2£d to 3d; locks, 2£d to 2|d. Sheepskins —lnferior sorts were dull of. sale, better sorts being firm at last sale rates. Crossbred fine, 6|d to 7d; crossbred, 4£d to Sfd; crissbred, dead, 3|d to 4£d; crossbred, shorts, 2£d to 4d; crossbred, damaged, 2d to 32d; lambs, 4Jd to fid: hoggets, 4d to 5Jd; crossbred, damp, 2s 7d to 3s 9-Jd; crossbred, salted, 3s to 4s 3d; green pelts. 9d. Hides—The market showed an advance of about one farthing over last sale rates. Ox, 57 to 731bs, s|d to 6£d; 35 to 431bs, 4gd to sd; cut and slippy, 3§d to s|d; cow, 36 to 48ib3, 4|d to sd; cut and slippy, 3|d to 4|d; yearling, 4gd; yearling, out, 2£d. Calfskins were in very good demand, the market advancing about halfpenny on last sale rates. Best, 7|d to B§d; medium, 7d; inferior, s§d to 6Jd; dry, 3Jd. Tallow —In casks, 22s to j 24s 3d; in tins and kegs, 20s 6d to 21s.
