INTER-STATE CRICKET. NEW SOUTH WALES v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Received December 20, 4.30 p.m. ADELAIDE, December 20. New South Wales in their first innings made 713. Hopkins (218), JNoble (213), Rev. Waddy (64), Syd. Gregory (21), Macarthey(29), Barnes (44), Cotter (not out 24), were the chief contributors. O'Connor took 4 wickets for 173, Whitty 2 for 142, Pretty 3 for 112, Quist none for 56. The Hopkiris-Noble partnership yielded 283 runs. Each batsman gave a brilliant display. The second ball received yester:lay disposed of Hopkins. The only mistake he made in the innings was a possible chance before he had scored.

A world's record in first-class cricket (918) was put up by New South Wales against South Australia in 1901. The English record is held by Yorkshire, which Club put up 887 against Warwickshire in 1896. The largest total score made in one innings is 1,094 runs, put up by the University Club (Melbourne) against Etsend.in in 1898; Carlton (Melbourne) put up 922 runs against Essendon in 189(5.
