PRISONERS SENTENCED.
"DEADWOOD DICK" ACT. Frank Allwood, a youth 19J years of age, who has had a weakness for Deadwood Dick literature, and who went the length of iwriting two alleged plays of the "robbfiry and hold up" order, was put forward for sentence at the Wellington Supreme Court on Saturday. .Some time ago he advanced on a bouse at Nireaha, and, brandishing two revolvers, invited those inside to "hold up." He succeeded in frightening some women in the house, and departed without further ceremony. Mr Page pleaded for leniency for prisoner, and said he was more of a f.iol than a criminal. Mr Myers stated that when prisoner was sixteen years of age he was convicted of theft and ordered to come up for sentence when cal!el upon. His Honor (Mr Justice Chapman) said that prisoner had evidently been reading idiotic books, and had got a lot of silly, childish ideas into his head. He wanted to do something to cure prisoner of this nonsense. He would not be allowed to associate with other prisoners of known criminal intent, and would be sentenced to three mor ths' imprisonment without hard labour. A WAYWARD MAORI. Rawhiti Manihera, a young Maori, 19 years of age,came up for sentence on two charges of breaking and entering and theft. Prisoner in 1902 was ctnvicted of horse-stealing at Greytown, and sent to Burnham. He absconded, and on 26th October was convicted for theft at Christchurch, and »-eturned to Burnham. He escaped agaui, and was later sentenced for theft at Wellington to fourteen days' imprisonment. During one of his absences from Burnham he went to Greytown, Mr Myers stated, and was married. Prisoner,' who was described by the judge as an irresponsible young man, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
