SEVERAL PERSONS KILLED

MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED.

Received December 17, 10.55 p.m. CARACAS, December 17. There has been considerable rioting and pillaging at Caracas, arid the Government has been compelled to proclaim martial law. Several perjutis were killed during the rioting. President Castro's effigy was publicly burned.

Caracas is the capital of the Republic of Venezuela.
