MR HORNSBY'S FUTURE MOVEMENTS. % ENJOYABLE GARDEN FETE. (Special to Age.) CARTERTON, Member 10. In a recent issue of the "Standard" it was reported that an influential deputation waited on Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, and in response to ,their wishes he had decided to stay in the Wairarapa, and to contest the next general election. Mr Hornsby was waited upon by a "News" reporter yesterday, and questioned as tu the facts. Mr Hornsby, in reply, stated that no formal deputation had waited on him, and that he had neither decided to stay in the district, nor to be a candidate at the next election. A garden fete, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, was held in Dr Johnston's grounds, Carrington Lodge, yesterday afternoon. The chief attraction was "The Crowning of the May Queen," the Maypole dance, and children's part singing. There were the usual outdoor games, croquet, tennis, and ring games, and altogether a most enjoyable - time was apent. The stalls for the sale of fruit, flowers, vegetables, and farm produce did a roaring trade, and the tea rooms were well patronised, whilst the playing of the Band at intervals enlivened the proceedings. The receipts from gate money and sales will make a satisfactory addition to ths fund being raised for Manss repairs. The weather v*as all that could be desired. At the conclusion the Doctor and Mrs Johnston were thanked for their kindness in placing their house and grounds at the disposal of the committee. Mrs MacFarlane undertook the onerous duties of secretary.
