MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
'MONTHLY MEETING. ahe monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held afternoon. Present —Crs W. J. Welch (Chairman), D. W. Foreman, J. Miller, J. Morris, J. Colquhoun, A. Murray, C. C. Kebbell and R. F. Beetham.
Messrs Maxwell and Pond wrote asking for an extension of time to complete the Mt. Baker contract, and for Is per yard extra for metal taken from Harding's pit.—The matter was left to the Engineer to deal with. Mr H. H. Wardell wrote asking permission to erect a gate across Stronvar Road.—Held over. Messrs Langlands and Co. wrote asking permission to erect metal bins on the Weraiti-Fernyhurst Road. The District Road Engineer forwarded approved specifications for Alfredton-Weber Road metalling, and for Wangaehu Road.—Granted subject to the Engineer's approval. Mr R. T. Holmes wrote accepting, with thanks, his re-appointment to the Masterton Benevolent Trustees. The Commissioner ot Crown Lands notified his approval to expend thirds from sections 21-23 on Saunder s Road deviation. The Receiver of Land Revenue advised the remittance of £l3l Is 8d j ordinary thirds. «. The Secretary of the Masterton Technical .Schooi sent an invitation to the members of the Council to be present at the opening of the Seddon Memorial Schooi. Mr W. Morris, Alfredton, wrote forwarding the fee for a lorry license. The Advances to Settlers Office wrote stating it had no objection to the taking of portions of sections 45-7 and 94-5 for purposes of widening Upper Plain Road.—lt was decided to proceed with the work forthwith, all the necessary consents having been obtained. Messrs Gawith and Logan wrote, on behalf of Mr J. Blatchford, Opaki, stating that as their client had been required to clear the river bed abutting on hi a property of willows and logs, it was the duty of the Council to require neighbouring property owners to perform similar work. -The letter stated that Mr Blatchford intended proceeding againstthe Council for damages he had suffered through the Council neglecting to require his neighbours to clear the river bed of debris. After some discussion,' it was decided to instruct the Engineer to give notice to all settlers, <near whatever riyer, to clear away willow obstruction. . .
The Treasury notified its provisional approval to the £I,OOO loan Alfredton-Weber Road. A request from Mr M. Kerins for payment for extra metal placed on .the Alfredton-Weber Road in connection with' his contract was not acceded, to. Mr Steven Harding waited upon the Council in reference to the heavy traffic being carried .on-fey him over Ihe iMiki Miki Road .He said that if the Council would oiear the water tables on the road he would pay half the cost of tiie wages of a ma.) rengaged to keep the ruts on the road filled in. Only three munth3 traffic was to be carried-on bv him, ■and that .would be in good weather. The matter was eventually left to :the ' Ridinsr representatives (Crs Welch and .Foreman). The Finance Committee reported as-follows, the report being adopted: —Bank General Account, -dr balance, £2,981 18s .2d; Local Bodies Loana Account, cr balance, £2,487 7s lOd; Accounts, dr balance £614 16s lOd; receipts since last meeting, £507 3s _2d. Accounts amounting to £1,291 I.ls ,4d were recommended for payment. On the motion of Cr Miller, it was agreed to pay to Mrs AJexander medical expenses incurred by her in connection with a trap accident between the Waipoua bridges some time agQ, when a.daughter of Mr E. H. Waddington was also injured.
