CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the adjourned annual meeting on Saturday last, Cr A. J. Speedy was again re-elected Chairman of the J Council for the ensuing term. All the members were appointed a Works and Finance Committee, two to form a quorum. The ordinary business was then proceeded with, and Cr Robert L. Langdon took his seat. Correspondence was read. —-From the District Road Engineer, with plans and specifications of' the road in Whakatai Valley approved, and pointing out some slight alterations required in the specifications; from the Commissioner of Crown Lands re the Council taking over the landing service at Castlepoint; Mr M. Dunn, enquiring if the road, as laid off, went through his land at the Rocky Spurs, in the Whakataki Valley—the Clerk was directed to see Mr Dunn and explain to him where ttte road was laid off; the Akitio County Clerk wrote on the matter of electing a member for the District Hospital Board. Four applications were received for I surfaceman in place of M. Collins, who was appointed Road Overseer. — The appointment was left in the hands of the Clerk to arrange. Mr J. Cameron attended in respect to the Rewe Rewe Road, and requested that a bridge should be made over the creek just inside the gate on his boundary. The Chairman was authorised to initial the signatures to the petition, and make the necessary declaration in connection with the special loan for a bridge over the Taueru river at Meldnum.

The Chairman and Crs Ryder, Richardson and Langdon were appointed to inspect the landing service aheds and jetty at, Castlepoint, and report to next meeting. It was decided co apply to the Treasury for an additional ten per cent, on the loan of £BOO for the Whakataki-Castlepoint Road, and lo arrange to open both ends of the road for traffic at once, and to call for tenders for inetal'i'rig parts of the Tinui-Manawa Road, to close at next meeting; and to apply to Mr Toogood for leave to take stone from the creek on his property at Te Maire.

The Road Overseer's report was read and considered.

It was also decided to get the stone from Mr Clemis®n's hill carted and laid on the road at Thorpe, and also to get the stone that is being broken at the Tinui Junction carted to the township. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £SQGon loan- account, and £l4B 18s 6d on general account. The list of accounts passed for payment amounted to £256 7s 9d.
