MASTERTON HOMING PIGEON CLUB.
RACE FROM WAIPAwA. A match, under the auspices of the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club, was flown from Waipawa yesterday afternoDn, the air-line distance being about 85 miles. The weather at this end was favourable, but further north the conditions were the reverse, with the result that only three birds arrived within the time limit of twenty miles an hour. The winner turned up in Mr A. Miller's "Flashlight," who did the flight in 3 hours 12 minutes 16 seconds. Mr F. Rosson acted as judge, and the stationmaster at Waipawa kindly liberated the birds. Results are as follow Mr A. Milter's "Fasblight," 730 yds per minute 1 Mr W. Hoar's "North Mail," 718 yds per minute 2 Mr J. Bradbury's "Valkyrie," 605 yds per minute 3 The next race will be from Napier on Thursday, 10th inst., the following Thursday the Club will endeavour to arrange a flight between here and Gisborne, a distance of 204 miles. The members will also have a team of birds in training for the Christchurch race, which eventuates on January Ist, the distance of which is about 220 miles.
