A NO-LICENSE DISTRICT'S FEAR.
iNEW BREWERIES ON THE BORDER. A PROTEST. AND A MINISTER'S REPLY. '■By Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTON, November 30. As a result of persistent rumours =that a brewery or beer depot was to be established on the border of Ashburton, a No-License district, the ♦boundary of which is now only a mile outside the town, a member of the No-L'cense Council telegraphed. to the Minister of Customs (Hon. J. A. Millar) to-day, asking for a of the rumour, as such action would be regarded as an outrage on public sentiment. Replying, the Hon. Millar stated that no permit for the depot had been ♦granted, but the law did not require a permit for the erection of a brewery. Notification had been received, as required by law, that a brewery was about to be erected, but the matter had not yet been dealt with. The Minister said the Government would go as far as it had power t® endeavour to prevent the placing of any brewery, or depot, immediately *O3 tha boundaries of a No-License district.
