BOWLING.

MASTERTON v. PALMERSTON. Two team? from the Masterton Bowling Club journeyel to Palmersto.i North on Saturday to play a friendly game with the latter dab. They were met at the railway station by the Mayor (Mr'Nash, President of the Club), the Secretary, and a number of the Palmerston bowlers, and were driven to the green. The visitors had a practice for an hour, and were then entertained at lunch at the Club Hotel. Play commenced at 2 p.m., with the result that Masterton won by a point. The teams were provided with afternoon tea by the Mayoress (Mrs Nash) and lady Iriends of the Club. The President of the local Club made a short speech thanking the Masterton Club"for their visit. This was replied to by Mr W. P. James on hehalf of the Masterton Club. A most enjoyable day was sent, the visiting team stating that they cannot speak too highly of their reception. The details of the play are as follows : Pickering, Scott, Nash, Drew (skip), Palmerston North, 26, beat Chamberlain, Bartlett, Rose, Prentice (skip), Masterton, 22. James, Jones, Hunter,- Cochrane (skip), Masterton, 27, beat Batchelor, Dixon, Tasker, Mowlem (skip), Palmerston North, 22. Totals—Mastertoß. 49; Palmerston North, 48. A return match will be played at an . early date.
