THE POSITION OF NOLICENSE AT MASTERTON.

MAJORITY OF 33 1 5 VOTES. The scrutiny [and count of the votes in connection with the Masterton Electorate concluded on Saturday last, and the final result so far as the local option poll is concerned is as follows: —

Valid votes cast 5423 For continuance 2111 For reduction 2522 For No-Licerse 3287 Majority for No-License 33.2

No-License was therefore declared to be carried by the Returning Officer, Mr W. Gillespie.

THANKSGIVING SERVICE AT MASTERTON.

[ There was a large attendance at the Town Hall, Masterton, last evening, when a thanksgiving service was held under the auspices of the No-License Party in connection with the carrying of. No License in the (Viasterton electorate. The chair | was taken by Mr J. McGregor, who in a forceful speech enlarged on the appropriateness of the occasion when so great a battle had been fought and won. The speaker made a point of the fact that the meeting was not held to glorify in the downfall of the liquor party individually, but to thank God for a victory which aimed at the moral uplifting of the people of the community. Addresses were also given by the Rev. J. N. Buttle, whose theme was the benefit to the young of the victory achieved, Mr C. J. Tocker, who dwelt upon the good influence on home life which must follow on the new era, and the Rev. A. Hodge, who spoke of the great increase in the No-License vote disclosed by the recent poll. Prayers were offered by the Revs. Hodge and Buttle, the "Old Hundredth," and "Onward, Christian Soldiers," being sung. A choir composed of members of various church choirs occupied the stage, on which were also Mr D. McGregor, jnr., and Mr J. Bridges, President and Secretary respectively of the NoLicense League.
