THE RISE IN WOOL.
The result ot the first wool sale of the season at Wellington will be received with much satisfaction by all who raalise what an important part good prices for wool play in the prosperity of New Zealand, saya the Christchurch "Press." If one were to believe Mr Powlds, the rise would be a matter of small consequence to any but a handful of people, for if it were true, as stated by the Minister, whose acquaintance with wool is probably limited to manufactured articles, that the disastrous drop last season affected only a few landowners, any advance in price would of necessity benefit only the same gentlemen. As a matter of fact, of course, everyone in the Dominion has reason to be gratified at the improved demand for our staple product, for the price of wool is a matter of vital importance to thousands of farmers, and unless the farmer is doing well, the whole community is affected.
