CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, November 19. The first wool aale of the season was held to-day. There was a large attendance, including representatives of the local woollen mills, Home, Continental, and American firms. The wool forward was entirely from farmers'on the plains and the Peninsula, the large stations being unrepresented. The wool was not in such good condition as at the first sale last year; it was wellgrown, but somewhat dirty on account of the strong' winds of the early spring. Competition was very brisk, buyers evidently holding large orders. Compared with the Wellington sales prices were about Jd. per lb better; very few lots were passed in at the sale, which, considering the condition of the wool, is satisfactory. There were 4,931 bales offered. •
