LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, November 24th, 1908:—The mutton market is quiet but iirm, s.nd is affected by expectations of light arrivals from JSfew Zealand. There is no change in prices to report.

The lamb market is dull, and has bsen unfavourably affected by large Bupphes of Scotch and Dutch coming forward. Prices have slightly declined for all grades. The beef market is quiet, and there is a large supply. Hindquarters are quoted at 3|d, and forequarters at 3Jd per lb. The butter market is quiet. Some holders are forcing prices to go lower. Keports that factories are increasing the moisture limit affect the. market very seriously for New Zealand. The following are the current quotations:—Danish, 1265; New Zealand 1225; Siberian, 113s; Australian, 121s per cwt. The cheese market is firm. Canadian makes are quoted at 51s per cwt.

The hemp market is firmer, and there is a better demand. Current quotations are as follows:—Good fair grade on spot, £26 ; fair grade oh spot, i' 23 10s; fair current Manila on spot, £24 10s;. January to March shipments —Good fair grade, £25 ss; fair grade, £23; fair current Manila, £24 10s. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 25,000 bales. The wool market is firmer. Prices continue to advance, and business prospects are good. Bradford tops are quoted as follows: 36 's low crossbreds, lOJd; 40's low crossbreds 10|d; 44's medium Hid; 50's halfbreds, Is 3£d;-56's quarterbreds, Is 6Jd; 60' a merinos, Is ll£d. The hop market is firmer, and there is a prospect of improvement. Finest English hops are quoted at 85s.
