Rev. H. F. Bourne, of Napier, who has been on a visit to England, returned by the Ruapehu yesterday.

Mr W. Uren, a popular member of the staff of the W.F.C.A., Maste--ton, was married yesterday to Mifcj E. Nicholls, formerly on the dressmaking staff of theW.FC.A. The ceremony took place at St. Matthew's Church, the Rev. H. Watson officiating. The bride was given away by Mr C. S. Ball.. Mr Uren received the presentation of a handsome clock from his fellow employees on Saturday night, Mr J. Caselberg voicing the good wishes of the staff.

Mr Thomas Todd, senior, one of the earliest and most esteemed residents of Southland, died at Waikiwi, near Invercargill, on Thursday afternoon. .He wa3 the head of the firm of " Thomas Todd and Snns, who have extensive brick and tile works a few ..miles out of Invercargill. The late Mr Todd, who had reached the advanced age of 86 years, leaves a widow and large grown-up family," one of whom is Dr William Todd, who ha* lately been practising his profession at Feilding. London papers of September 16th -■contained the following news relating _. to the family of an ex-Govern<»r of New Zealand:—The Hon. James Boyle, Royal Scots Fusiliers, second son of the Earl and Countess ol Glasgow, and Miss Katherine Bowlby, daughter of the late Mrs Salvin Bowlby, of Lowndes-squara and Meraton House, Banbury, were married at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street. The wedding was to have taken place on April 30tb, and everything was in readiness, and m«re than five hundred guests had accepted invitations, when the bride became ill. She had a very severe attack of measles. When she recovered, the doctors prescribed a . long rest and change of air. The wedding was a very quiet one, for there were not more than a dozen relatives present, and the bride was married in her travelling dress of white serge, with a white felt hat and a white feather boa. She was given away by her brother, Captain Geoffrey Bowlby, R.H.G., but was • unattended by either bridesmaids or pages, and the bridegroom and his . best man, the Hon. John Boyle, were A in lounge suits and black felt hats.
