THE BRITISH NAVY.

MR ASQUITH'S "NOTABLE

DECLARATION."

Received November 15, 4.25 p.m LONDON, November 14.

The "Chronicle," in an article, applauds Mr Asquith's notable declaration in regard to naval construction. Though the increase in the naval estimates is to be five or six millions, the "Chronicle" fears that the Hon. D. Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, will be forced to face twenty millions additional taxation.

A number of Radical newspapers are trying to water down Mr Asquith's declaration in regard to the navy.
