Mr H. Nepven, of Newman, will leave on a visit to France shortly. He has sold his farm on Centra! Road to a Masterton settler.
The friends of Mr C. 11. Devonport, of Upper Plain, who has been seriously ill in the Masterton Hospital with pneumonia, will be pleased to hear that he is now recovering.
The Preshyterian Assembly has offeied the Rev. W. Hewitson, of Knox Church the position of master, of Knox College which carried a salary of £6OO yearly. Mr Hewitson is taking time to consider. In recording the death of a veteran member of the teaching profession in Otago, in the person of Mr G. B. Anderson, the "Otago Daily Times" says that for 40 years the deceased gentleman held the position of head teacher of the North Taieri School, from which position he resigned a few months ago on leave of absence pror to his suoerannuation. He was a painstaking and capable teacher, and the esteem in which he was held by those who were his pupils was well evidenced at a meeting which was held in his honour on the occasion of his retirement. In his esriier days Mr Anderson served through part of the Maori war in the Taranaki district.
