ATTEMPT TO BRIBE FOOT-
BALLERS
COAL DEALER SENT TO GAOL,

A coal dealer at Wigan was sentanced to two months' imprisonment, with hard labour, for attempting to bribe Todd and Johnston, the New Zealanders, who are now members of the Wigan Northern Union football team, to lose a match.

The English Rugby Union entertained the Australian amateur Rugby team, the ''Wallabies," at dinner, Mr Rowland Hi}] presiding, Mr Hill congratulated the team An .tha g?eat achivements and for playing the game according to the beat traditions of British sport. Mr LafLm, in the absence of Lord Desborough, head of the Olympic Sports Executive, presented medals to the members of the Australian combination who composed the team which defeated the champion English team (Cornwall) in the international tourney at the Stadium.
