THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
AN IMPORTANT 'JUDGMENT. j By telegraph— Press Association. THAMES, November 13. An important judgment was delivered by the Warden (Mr Burgess) in a case in which the Miners' Union proceeded against members for moneys due on strike levy towards the assistance of the Blackball miners. The magistrate held that the contention that the levy was made for an illegal purpose would not hold. A strike was not a continuing offence, and, therefore, it was not illegal to assist persons ongstrike after the day on which the strike took place. Regarding the second contention—that the council had exceeded its powers in making uch levy, the magistrate held that the contention was good; the levy had been illegally made. Judgment was I given for defendant.
