A DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, November 13. A destructive fire last night burnt down the sixteen-roomed residence of Mr Robert Allan, known as Ronald, erected by the late Judge Broad. Mr Allan left for Wellington last night, and Mrs Alhn and family were at home.- The family had retired, and were awakened by smoke. They just had time to get out in their night-clothes, Mrs Allan being assisted from the balcony, and a servant escaping from a window. Mrs Allan is suffering greatly from shock. Mr Allan, junr., and Miss Allan were slightly burnt, and the servant's clothes caught fire. The insurances are not yet available, and the loss will be considerable, as the place was beautifully furnished, and contained numerous Island curios, personally collected during many years. The water supply proved quite inadequate, as the house was situated on the the highest part of the town.
