MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held on Saturday last. There were present C ra F. W. M. Kummer (Chairman), H. J. Dagg, C. A. Wall, J. E. Perry, J. F. Heckler, and C. Churchill Jackson. Notices of approaching elections of Trustees to the various Hospital Boards and charitable institutions were received, but it was decided to leave the appointment of delegates to the ijw Council. A large amount of correspondence •was dealt with, but not of public interest. The allowances to several persons receiving charitable aid were reduced, and much time was taken up dealing with several of the cases. The damage done to the roads by timber waggons not licensed in the County was discussed, and it was resolved to require in every case the production of the license to the overseer or roadman; failing this being done to stop the traffic until a license is taken out and the fee paid. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the decision of the Eketahuna County Council to defer a settlement of! ■the division of license fees until the end of the financial year. Messrs Crookenden and Rawson's offer to maintain the Mount Munro Road East was not entertained. This road will be left in charge of the overseer. Th 3 overseer's proposal to do further repairs required on the Mangaoronga Road was not agreed to, Cr Heckler undertaking to attend to anything that might be urgently needed. The Returning Officer was instructed to provide four polling booths for the approaching election of Councillors. A proposal to have 3n additional booth at Kaiparoro was not agreed to. The Chairman and Cr Heckler reported that an arrangement had been come to with J. Anderson to take in a load of metal for every load of timber he takes out; also that the length of the section ot the Mangamahoe Road to be maintained by the limekiln owner had been defined. Accounts amounting to £149 3s 8d were passed for payment.
