ST. MATTHEW'S CHURCH.
A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. St. Matthew's Schoolroom was packed to its utmost capacity last evening, the occasion being a social given in aid of the Building Fund of St. Matthew's Church. A very interesting programme was arranged, and was much appreciated, every item being loudly applauded. Mrs Dupre's recitations were very very much appreciated and she was trebly encored. The items rendered were as follow: —Pianoforte duet, Misses Hood and Jones; song, "I Pear no Foe," Mr W. T. Cook; song, "The Slave Song," Miss Holloway; song, "The Veteran Song," Mr C. Thomas; song, "Love the Pedlar," (encored), Miss Elkins; recitation, "The Crossing Sweeper" (encored), Mrs Dupre; song, "The Yeoman's Wedding Song," Mr R. Nixon; song, "Beloved it is Morn," Miss Wright; song, "Thy Sentinel and I," Mr Elcoate; song, "Mignjn," Miss 0. Richards; song, "Farewell to Summer," Miss Howell; song, "Rose of My Life," Mr A. D. Low; song, "Butterflies (encored), Miss Edwards; recitation, "The Bush Christening," (encored), Mrs Dupre; song, "The Lover and the Bird" (encored), Mrs Te Tau. As an encore Mrs Te Tau sang "Home Sweet Home" in Maori. The Rev. Watson thanked those who had assisted in the social and also the ladies' committee who supplied refreshments. The organisers of the social, Mesdames Noble-Campbell, sen., Maundrell, W. S. Ross, and W. T. Cook, and Mr E. H. Waddington, who also rendered valuable assistance are to be congratulated on the success achieved.
