TRAGEDY AT MANGAWEKA.
MURDER AND SUICIDE. By Telegraph—Press Association, j TAIHAPE, November 5. News has been received of a tragi edy at Mangaweka last night. A man named Krebs cut his wife' 3 | ; throat and then committed suicide by jumping over a cliff. i An inquest will be held to-day. WELLINGTON, November 5. A telegram from Taihape states that details ot the Mangaweka tragedy are meagre. It appears that P. A. Krebs, a labourer, aged 36, generally a sober man, had been drinking during the last day or two. His wife, an invalid, aaked him to ease her back. Soon after he placed an arm round his wife's neck. He l'fted her chin and cut her throat. Before jumping over the cliff he must havo cut his own throat. He felij3oo feet. His head was battered. The woman is alive and may possibly recover. There is fTo clue at present as to the motive. Only evidence of identification was taken to-day, and the inquest was adjourned.
