MANAWATU SHOW.

PALMERSTON N., November^. The weather was fine though windy to-day for the opening day of the Manawatu Show. The attendance was quite equal to the average for the first day. Lord Plunket formally opened the Show, Congratulating the Association on the continued progress of the great agricultural carnival which might be termed world-famed. The judging to-day was confined to pigs, poultry, an 3 home industries. In tnfi fWliltr'y classes, Wyandottes and Minorcas vverS strongly represented, Messrs Bannister, Pickering and Chapman scooping most of the prizes.
■ln the pig classes Slack Bros, showed the first and champion Berkshire boar and sow, the judge considering they would not be beaten at any show in the Dominion. The champion Devon boar was exhibited by Ness Bros., and the champion sow by Mrs B. H. Slack. Miss E. Abbott won'the bareback riding competition, and Mr C. Donnelly was the best gentleman rider. There were over thirty entries for the Maiden Hunters' Leaping Competition, which was won by Lynn McKelvie's entry, H. C. Hartley's Vendetta being second. Miss E. Abbott won the Ladies' Driving, and Mrs Bull showed the bast ladies' trap and horse.
The butter fat competiticn was won by Griffiths and Cornwall's (New Plymouth) Granny's Girl, with 288 points; J. Murray's, junr., (Woddville), and W. P. Harris' (Rata) entries being bracketed for second place with 217 points; and E. G. C. Dermer's (Feilding) being third with 216 points.
