TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland") The programme for the annual meeting of the Ashhurst meeting, to be held on December 29th, appears in this issue. The stakes, which are decidedly on the liberal side, total no less than £1,405 for eight events, the Ashhurst Cup being worth the substantial amount of £SOO. A point that will appeal to owners is the fact of nomination and acceptance fees be ; ng reduced to a minimum. In the Trial Hurdles. Flying Hack, Komako Welter, Maiden Hack, the stake money is 100 sovs, the nomina- ' tion fee is £l, and the acceotance £l, while in the " Pohangina Handicap and Manawatu Gorge Handicap the prize money is £2OO, the nomination only £1 and acceptance £2. The extremely liberal nature in the matter of sta|ie money is even better emphasised in the Cup, for which the nomination is only £1 and the acceptance fee £4. It will be no surprise, therefore, to find a record nomination list for the meeting in question, and the attendance is sure to be a record, as tbe Club ranks as one of the most progressive and popular institutions in the Dominion. A noticeable feature in the programme is that second and third horses are well provided for in prize money, and this will result in the contestants being raced out, and exciting finishes witnessed. The course has undergone a special preparation for the meeting, and will be in splendid condition. Nominations and payments for the Guineas close with the secretary at Ashhurst on December sth.
