TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland".) The acceptances for the New Zealand Cup, 23 in number, are considerably less than confidently expected. The most notable defections are Moral, Bonny Glen and St. Aidan, but the majority of horses that have chances oE success are still in. Of the acceptors Zimmerman, Uhlando, Grand Slam, Moloch, Apa, Riflemaid, and Mallet, were seen out at the Wellington meeting last week, and the only one to show up prominently was Zimmerman, who carried 9.6 in the Wellington Handicap, of one mile and a quarter, and ran a close second. His form was distinctly impressive, but not perhaps a good guide as to his chance of scoring in the big two-mile event, inasmuch as he did not meet the best of the opposition that he will have to race against on November 7th. The Wellington running cannot be saia to have thrown much light on the principal event of the year, and news on the training work at Riccarton will now be eagerly awaited.
