MARRIAGES AND COSMETICS.

As already announced, Georgia, one of the Prohibition States of America, is considering a measure "to protect man from woman's wiles." It is commonly called the "Feminine Wiles and Blandishments Bill," and the full text of the measure', which j was introduced into the Legislature" by Mr George Glenn, one of the representatives, has now been printed and referred to a committee. It is entitled "An Act to revive and put in forie the British Act of Parliament adopted in the year 1670 relating to the wiles and . .blandishments of women upon the unsuspecting males of this State"; to make the same of force and , effect in the State of Georgia and for other purposes. ! Section 1. Be it enacted by- the State of Georgia, and it is hereby enacted by authority of the same, that all women of whatever rank, profession, or degree, whether maids or"widows, that shall from and after -the passage of this Act impose upon and betray into martimony any unsuspecting male subjects of this State by scents, paints, powder, or perfumes, cosmetics, waters, artificial teeth, false hair, Spanish, wool or any other kind of wool, iron stays, corsets* pads, or padding hoops, or high-heel shoes, V-cut waists, lingerie, lace, variegated, dropstitched or rainbow hosiery, or by any other deceitful means or artificial practices, shall incur the penalty of the laws now in force against witchcraft, sorcery, and such-like crimes and misdemeanours, and that the marriage, upon conviction, shall stand null and void." Section 2 enacts that all previous statutes in conflict with this are repealed. „ , n -n ■ Mr Glenn, the author of the Bill, is forty-five years old and married. He declares that owing to the alluring way in which women array themselves nowadays, men are not free to consider matrimony judicially. "I believe, " he says, "that my bill will make tor happy marriage. I am convinced that the divorce courts are largely filled to-day because of the devices of dress that " 'women employ to lure men into matrimony.
