Goodbehere, Feilding, at 8.30 p.m. on Friday next, October 30tb. TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland".) Ac Opaki yesterday morning work began st an early hour. R. Knox was first out with his team, and Rose Herald was given a mile on the plough with a light weight up. On being pulled up it was found that she had ricked her near hind leg, and went off slightly lame. Merrie Rese ran a similar distance in good style, and Lucretius was sent seven furlongs at about top. Thera and Skye were associated in a run from the mile post, on reaching the half mile the former was pulled out, and Skye ran out the remaining four furlongs alone. San Julie and Gaelic were sent together over seven furlongs, the first named having the best of the gallop. Kiltie Lass, Osiris, Sealer, Aberration, Speciosa* .Blue Ribbon, Afterthought, Petroleum mare, St. Charles, and Culver Lass were worked separately and executed good working gallops. Sandstream, Irish Rifle, and Daisy Paul started off from the seven furlongs post, the former being in front all the way and finishing a length in front of Daisy Paul, with Irish Rifle close up. The latter looks well, but put very little dash into the. gallop. Pukewhai ran five furlongs in fair time, and Lebeccic went twice round in a taking manner, Golden Butterfly jumped two flights of hurdles, and was then sent a mile on the plough. Hermia, a Dash Hack and Maiden Scurry candidate, was merely walked. Moloch, Riflemaid, and Sunbonnet left Wellington for Riccarton last night in charge of M. McGrath. The two first named are looked upon a£ certain starters for the New Zealand Cup, and Sunbonnet for the Stewards' Handicap. The course proper at Opaki is in better condition than it has ever previously been. Mr H. Welch, the Club's custodian, has worked hard to ensure a really good track for the meeting, and judging by the complimentary opinions expressed by visiting trainers has certainly succeeded. If the weather keeps fine some fast times will be registered at the ingMr V. O'Neill will act as assistant starter to Mr A. C. McDonell al the Masterton meeting, and very even despatches may be looked forward to. A number of visiting horses arrived by rail yesterdny, and the majority of them were taken to th< course this morning.
